Democracy Guardians (DG) is an innovative nonprofit, launched in May 2017, whose mission is to channel the passions of people who share a vision for self-government and leverage technology to strengthen democratic institutions, and thereby promote governments that serve the interests of all of the people, not just the powerful few.
DG is based on the proposals from the book Holy War for True Democracy – Powered by Passion and Technology by Jon Ferraiolo. (A summary of the book’s proposals can be found here.)
DG’s first initiative will be to Prioritize Trustworthiness of information sources on government and politics by leveraging crowd-sourced judgments from trained and trusted DG members, which results in a trustworthiness score that is shown to end users next to each article’s byline so that readers can see at a glance the trustworthiness of the author. This will increase public pressure for truth from media outlets, elected politicians, government administrators and other organizations and individuals who are in positions of power.
